Rent or buy an instrument?

Try before you commit.

5 min read

Renting lets you try an instrument without a big up-front cost. Buying used can be cheaper if you stick with it.

Consider

  • Many music stores offer rentals, and some apply part of the rent to buying
  • Good used instruments often resell for a good share of what you paid
  • Have used instruments checked by a teacher or technician
  • Very cheap instruments can be hard to play and discourage beginners

Try it

Our rent or buy calculator compares the options for the months you expect to play.
